Happy Sixth Birthday (Rezday?) To SecondLife

Photobucket
Starting today, Tuesday, SecondLife will be SLelebrating its sixth birthday. In order to commemorate the auspicious occassion, a bunch of sims have been crammed with displays constructed by residents--except for moi, I do not have a display there, neither as Rousselot Costruction nor CR Sims, so don't ask me for the slurl. Anyways, thanks to Baz Ceawlin, who thought highly enough of Natalie and myself to invite us to the press preview event, we got to go see what all the hullaballoo is about this year.

Most of the people we can blame, er, I mean give credit to, for the mayhem were conveniently perched on the center thingy, except for our buddies over at ROLE Magazine, Ofelia Laval and Leeza Catteneo. This was supposed to be like a meet and greet, question and answer type open forum, but it was very...um...let's say "casual", which was both somewhat "thank gawd" and "wtf" at the same time. There wasn't any big speech by anyone, and Natalie was one of the few people to ask serious questions--mostly about music royalties, permissions, and the payment of musicians and DJs in SL. Apparently, there are actually performers who do NOT get paid for their services in SL, which we found appalling, of course. It was my understanding that Linden Labs neither pays nor allows to be tipped their musical performers for the event. I may be wrong, I wasn't watching the chat that closely, but I came away from the event with this impression.

We did get to be in close proximity to several Lindens--the avatarts, not the currency (I accidentally added the "t" at the end of "avatar", and was going to correct it, but it made me laugh so I left it in). One of the most fashionable avatarts is Blondin Linden. Poor thing still wears a smiler, and his sunglasses were blinging. Maybe someone will invite the Linden males to that Make Him Over thing, or whatever those male improvement hunts are.
I didn't get to do much exploring, other than being TP'd over to see Ofelia and Leeza's display for ROLE Magazine, which I noticed wasn't far from the display for REZ Magazine, which is the publication of some other friends of ours, VooDoo Buwan and Trinity Dechou. I think we all agreed that the ground textures on the sim are, as I say, "the ultimate...in TACKINESS." They take ugly to a new level. The entire sims seemed to be total chaos. Cleanliness may be next to godliness, but to bring order out of chaos is definitely divine. I'll refrain from my very special kind of being a total bitch about the design, and just say, "go to the sims, see the sights."
Happy Birthday SecondLife, and congratulations to everyone who made this event possible. Here's to many more anniversary SLelebrations.
