A LESSON IN SL PR


I haven’t written anything in a while, but it wasn’t because I didn’t have anything to say because I always have something to say. It is because sometimes when everything is going mad, I like just to sit back and watch the mayhem from the sidelines. Being in this business, in second life and having the experience I have, you learn to embrace chaos and you know when to step out of the picture and just let people wreck themselves.

People have always asked me why I don’t use PR agents in sl. Well, for a start I wouldn’t know what they would do for me and secondly, if that PR mess over at “that other blog”, is the responsibility of a certain PR company, who claim to be the best in sl, then I am sorry but I wouldn’t touch it with a 60ft prim. In this business in sl you don’t need a PR person, all you need is a sense of humour and a little bit of common sense.

Id like to share with you another PR disaster, so here goes.
Sl has a gossip hot line, but what really makes me laugh is that there is a lot of new people getting in on it and they forget about the people who have been on it now for a long time. I am one of those people, I know a lot of people. I am going to tell my side of the story, about the time I went on a couple of dates with the alphamale owner Yelmer Pfeffer. I never wrote about it before but his girlfriend and business partner Mariska "I have gapingholitis" Simons won’t shut her mouth.

I went on a few dates with Yelmer. We had a great laugh and Yelmer is a really nice person. Of course it wasn’t long until people started to get on the hotline and began to tell me that Yelmer wasn’t single. I asked Yelmer if he was still romantically involved with Miss Simons and he said he wasn’t. Anytime after this, that people told me he wasn’t single I told them that he wasn’t romantically involved with anyone.

Then one night I got to meet Mariska and I was nothing but pleasant to her and I thought she was quite sweet. After about 10 mins though her attitude changed and she started to have little bitchy swipes at me about my sl work .She began to ask me things like, did I enjoy making people’s lives hell and stuff. The whole situation made me slightly uncomfortable, as I had never met this girl before. Rather than rip a hole in her, I made my excuses and left and immediately I got an IM from Yelmer to apologise for her behaviour. I removed her from my friends list and thought no more of it; I have seen a lot of desperate women in my time, so it was no big deal.
Almost immediately after this though, I started to receive messages telling me that Mariska was still very much with Yelmer and that she was telling people that he was just using me for publicity and that both of them had an agreement about this. It was supposed to be a bit of a secret but we all know that type of hot gossip would never be a secret.
I done what any self respecting lady would do and backed off, but not before I tackled Yelmer about the things I had heard. Had he used me to get a store in Kmadd City? Was he using me for the benefit of his business?

Yelmer said he would never have done anything so awful and didn’t know why anyone would make up such a terrible thing to tell me, yet he didn’t once seem to think that it might have actually been said by his bitchy ex gf and business partner out of pure jealousy .What I was saying to him was that he might not have been in on the plan but that didn’t mean she wasn’t saying these things to people without his knowledge.

I decided to trust my instincts to stay away and it wasn’t long until the two of them got partnered and Mariska had a great laugh again on the sl gossip hotline and of course it wasn’t long till I heard so that’s why I thought and come and give my side of the story. If you’re reading this and I know you will be, I want you to know you have now a reason to hate me and I hope you like to publicity it was my pleasure.
That is another reason why I chose to think for myself and not hire PR people to do it for me. Perhaps I should open a PR agency then I could charge people for using me as a social climbing ladder and I could give them the pointers on what to do and what not to do, instead of the who to piss off and who not to piss off.
