Sunday 28th September saw the latest of Jordyn Carnell (just call him JC)'s Monthly Birthday/Rez Day parties. Since early this year, JC has planned one of these events on the last weekend of the month, nominally for people with a Birthday or Rezday during the preceding month, but also for their friends, families and pretty much anyone who wants to come out and celebrate. One of the features of JC's parties is that each Month's event takes place at a different venue using a DJ not associated with that venue - giving clubs/venues an opportunity to work together and providing party-goers with exposure to new venues and DJs they may not otherwise get to see. As of August, the parties were moved from Friday to Sunday evenings in order to avoid conflict with other scheduled events - allowing more people the opportunity to attend.
This month's party took place at MenDance Club/Lounge (on the Mens World SIM - http://slurl.com/secondlife/Mens%20World/104/144/23) with the music supplied by the UK's DJ Rolday Wylie. JC hosted the event, with able assistance from regular partygoers Jt Volos and Equinox Donner. The party received support from a number of DJs and other venues, including Fire Island (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Fire%20Island/62/55/23 - the venue for the August event). In attendance were a number of MenDance regulars along with club owners and managers from other venues (including JakeC Hotshot of Jake’s http://slurl.com/secondlife/Cabria%20Island/117/93/670, Thorn Andel of SkyRanch http://slurl.com/secondlife/Queens%20Plaza/33/239/3502 and Micha Fotherington of the aforementioned Fire Island) and partygoers from across the spectrum of SL Clubs.

Much confusion occurred during the event due to the presence of Jt Volos (male, scantily clad, and hosting) and JT Littlething (female, svelte, blonde in a little black dress and high heels) – showing how important it is when talking in chat to get the spelling of someone’s name right! (I'm still not sure which of them this line was aimed at... GiacomoL Babenco: hey Mr. DJ...put the record on... I wanna dance with my JT...) Still, a little on the spot editing meant customised gestures were on hand for either – ~~~Jt-Tastic~~~ and ~~~JT-tastic~~~ both went down well!

The 3 hour event was well attended throughout, with lively chat (enough gesture usage to add to the fun, not so much as to detract from conversation) and great music all the way through from Rolday. Party animal Karmelle Witherspoon was on hand in one of her trademark skintight outfits (girls – if you want to look hot while out clubbing, you need to find out where Karmelle gets her stuff – I have never seen her look anything short of stunning no matter what event she is attending). Also present were RL Birthday boys mtd and Devon and SL Rez-day boy Carsten Balbozar (how Carsten found the energy to keep on partying after his 5 hour birthday extravaganza earlier on in the evening I will never know!!!).

One thing I have learned from events like this, with no theme other than to come along and party, is that they are great places to pick up fashion tips and shopping advice – with a crowd pulled from across the SL club scene and everyone wearing their own style, a lot of banter focussed on the latest styles and new places to shop that others hadn’t heard of. With the number of landmarks I picked up for new stores and recommendations for other places to head back to, it would almost seem that there was no more need for SL fashion magazines – except that a number of guests must have picked up copies of Davey & Arj’s Homme Magazine (www.thehommemag.com) from the stand in the club, given the praise I heard for it (that is one classy publication, with a website to match).

The only downside to the event was that it took place so late in the day (5pm SLT = 1am UK/2am Central Europe), meaning that a lot of the European crowd had headed to bed by the time the event began. JC assures me he is working on addressing that issue so that guests from around the globe will be able to join in future events.
