SHOULD LL POLICE BLOTTER CHANGE ?
For a long time, looking at the LL police blotter, has become a fun ritual for me. I like to do it just before I read my emails, to see if I have received a warning-no warnings here.
For anyone who isn't familiar with the LL police blotter, its a fun place on the Linden blog and the info on it basically tells you, who has just got a little slap and a time out. It always bothered me that the full details weren't on display and I was always slightly disappointed that there was never any naming and shaming and no one ever appeared to do anything really, really bad.
The only thing that was ever on it was, use of foul language, wagering and flashing. Well, when I say flashing ,I always took obscene behaviour in a PG area, as someone flashing there prim cock to someone who was easily shocked.....come on girls, its not a real cock, I mean it doesn't even look real.
I investigated why no one ever does anything really bad or was it that LL just didn't tell us.
My Intuition was right and when I was directed to the right department i was told that only minor offences go on the police blotter. The really bad people, who do the really bad things and get totally sent to ban city don't.
Anyway, apparently the main Problem Linden Labs has is when "partners" share each others passwords. We all know that here in sl it is very unusual for people to stay "Partners" for more and a few weeks, so what usually happens is that the disgruntled partner waits till the other is asleep and doesn't know they have decided to terminate the partnership and then goes on a rampage with their now former lovers account and avatar. Then when the oblivious other half wakes up they find that there account has been suspended investigation.
Of course the person usually cries,"Its wasn't me", only to be told that they broke a TOS, by giving out their password.
Should a person really be suspended, if they can prove that they didn't commit a cyber crime? Is it possible, that we are evolving into a whole other area of cyber crime? Could our accounts be hacked, to have our avatar commit crimes, while we are asleep?
Just last week a good friend of mine, had a very bizarre situation. He was online and I was talking to him, but I thought he was afk. Later that evening, he IM'd me using his alt and was in a bit of a panic because he couldn't log into his real account because it said he was already online. After checking it out with LL (during a 12 hr period BTW) it seems it was "just one of those things" and everything just seemed "to sort itself out" and my friend is still no wiser as to what happened. At the moment, I hear there is talks, as to whether LL should name and shame on the police blotter and should go into more detail about the crimes that have been committed. This would be a good thing because not only would it be humorous it would also show us what types of cyber crime is being committed in our world and who we should be looking out for and adding to the ban list.
