VIRTUAL POLICE DEPARTMENT
LOCK UP YOUR LAND, REAL LIFE SCHOOL SUMMER BREAK TO CAUSE MAYHEM IN SECOND LIFE
Its that time of the year again. The time when everything seems to go a bit mental, because the rl schools and colleges, stop for the summer and all the little griefers come back for more fun in the virtual sun.
I suppose, if I was 15 years younger, there might have been a possibility, that I would have been one of them . I know the joy, you can receive from covering a Sim in cows and other animals, but on thinking about it, 15 years ago that would have been at the bottom of my agenda for fun.
With all the talk of Interpol (lol) and police, I decided to take a closer look at the issues that face the residents of sl and I done some research into what will get you a one way ticket to ban city. To do this I went to talk to my friend and chief of the virtual sl police, Drakken Calhoun.
The VPD operates a very real presence in sl because for some Sim owners setting no build, isn't an option.
What exactly is the Virtual Police Department, or VPD for short? As you can probably tell by the name, it is a police department operating in Second Life. Big deal, right? Wrong. Whereas the vast majority of police departments in SL role play, or just mess around and "arrest" people, the VPD has a serious job.
The VPD handles security for Sims that have contracts through us. Many big name, real life companies and universities use our services. Princeton University, Mediaset, Life 2.0 ... those are just some of the top-of-the-line clients they work with. Even so, they still give individual attention and expert service to all of their clients, regardless of size. This means whether you're a small store owner or a Sim-region owner, you can still count on a professional service.
Besides providing Sim security, which includes general patrolling, special event police presence, griefer object scanning, etc, the VPD also has an investigative division. Within the investigative division, Second Life Terms of Service violations are investigated, in addition to copyright issues and content theft. Undercover and sting operations are also handled by this division.
So for some rather than call the real life police, who really don't give a damn, you should call the VPD.
I took myself over for my daily laugh to the sl police blotter. Its the place that tells you who wont be logging in and why. Today like every other day there was nothing different from any other day. It was all the usual spamming , prim littering, harassment ect, until I saw these ones.

I was wondering if someone at LL actually sits and monitors all the in world profiles, just to see if they are ok. Or did someone file an abuse report because they were so offended by someones profile.

Indecency: Global Standards: Group Information
Region:

Description:
Obscene word in group name
Action taken:
Warning issued.
Obscene to one person, might not be obscene to another. I have saw many Group names that a verging on being slightly, very un"pg", yet they match some of the in world locations that are not PG, yet are well known.
Is there now going to be strict guide lines imposed as to what is suitable on our profiles, and who decides when obscene is obscene?
