COPY AND PASTE !......SOOOOO LAST MONTH
We are all very aware, that the copy and plastering,whoops I mean pasting of private in world conversations, is in fact a breach of LL TOS. (this is why we have the ability to copy and paste lol). Well, it's in case you need to submit an abuse report, about copying and pasting, then you are aloud to copy and paste.(that blows my mind)
Now, LL have gave us the ability to record each others voice conversations.....awesome!
I thought about this a lot today and I was under the impression that there was already lots of people doing this in sl.
A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a female reader,(who wished to remain anonymous, which for this paper, isn't anything unusual) she was in the middle of being blackmailed by a guy who she had been oohing and ahhhing with. He took it upon himself to record her, without her consent and was going to play it in sl. The reason for this devious blackmail ,was that she had decided that he just wasn't pushing her buttons anymore and that he was getting the flick.
At the time, I went and checked out if this was actually possible, could you record sounds and voices from sl? It sounded highly illegal to record someone without permission, so with the consent of this Girl, I contacted the perv directly in world, on her behalf. He claimed he had been hurt and hadn't really recorded her. Oddly enough, he was extremely charming with me and apologised.
I dunno what the legal systems in other countries say about this voice recording stuff. I do know, if I call the bank hot line, before I get forwarded on to someone, I get a message telling me that all my conversations will be recorded for "training purposes". It isn't really for this, its in case you loose your temper with the person your going to be put through to, then they can ban your ass. They do this because you are not allowed to record voice conversations, without first telling the person.
So why have LL given the ability to do this?
Well it seems that its so that you can record speeches and people singing and stuff, then you can listen to it on your media player, over and over. In a nice sugar coated world, this would be wonderful but sl isn't like that and I am sure it will be used for the recording of private chats and used for blackmail, just like the guy tried with the girl.
Let's try to remember, that a note card can be faked and modified, a voice conversation recorded and sent via email cant.
Be careful who you talk to.
